How/why did you choose your major?

I’m interested in the application of art in integration with daily life.

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I chose two series of works following simple themes to show creative thinking in composition and ideation, as well as larger-scale project illustrations to show long-form projects in both traditional and digital mediums. I'm also interested in Print Paper Book, so I displayed an applied arts object - an Oyster label on a box, printed with plate lithography, and with a sculpted Oyster girl inside.

Why did you decide to come to 51±¬ÁϹÙÍø?

My cousin graduated from 51±¬ÁϹÙÍø in 2012, and I went to her senior show - I was interested in 51±¬ÁϹÙÍø from that point on.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I'm planning on doing an independent study next semester to design a stationary collection. For senior project, I'm thinking about working on a game concept and creating characters, environments and story beats in concept art. I'd like to maintain a fine arts practice as well where I can continue to explore experimental mediums.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

I love my friends, and the creative and inspiring environment. Having everything you do met with sincere understanding and appropriate seriousness is nice - your work as an artist is taken seriously here.

What inspires you?

I have so many artists who I follow and find that constantly inspire me. Little Thunder has been one for a long time, as well as Saitemiss. Otherwise, music and history inspire me as well.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

My favorite piece is Memory One, which is a traditional piece on Japanese paper representing my first memory. At my first birthday party, I got hot wax from the candle on my finger and cried, and my grandmother carried me to the sink and put my hand under the cool water. I recreated the memory in a slightly abstracted way using crayon and gouache.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

City pop music. I'm creating a magazine for my Artists' book class that is themed on a different playlist each edition, and this edition is City pop. I'm listening constantly.

What's the best thing you've found on the Free Shelf?

A staple remover, just when I needed a staple remover.

Lastly, do you have a favorite question we didn't ask? Tell us and answer it!

Nothing, but I'd like to thank my dog Mad Max for being cute.
