Katherine Turczan鈥檚 photographs explore family history in post-Soviet Ukraine. In projects titled 鈥淔rom Where They Came,鈥 鈥淧romise of Recovery,鈥 and 鈥淏rezhnev鈥檚 Daughters,鈥 Turczan brings a face to a country that has been undergoing political most recently in the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022.

Turczan has been exhibited and collected by major museums worldwide. Including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Chicago Institute of Art, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Getty Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Yale University Sterling Library.

Turczan has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, and the Bush Foundation, among others.

鈥淔rom Where They Came,鈥 Turczan鈥檚 first monograph, was published in the spring of 2023 with Stanley/Barker, UK.
