Katherine Turczan’s photographs explore family history in post-Soviet Ukraine. In projects titled “From Where They Came,” “Promise of Recovery,” and “Brezhnev’s Daughters,” Turczan brings a face to a country that has been undergoing political most recently in the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022.

Turczan has been exhibited and collected by major museums worldwide. Including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Chicago Institute of Art, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Getty Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Yale University Sterling Library.

Turczan has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, and the Bush Foundation, among others.

“From Where They Came,” Turczan’s first monograph, was published in the spring of 2023 with Stanley/Barker, UK.

In 2024 Turczan had an exhibition of “From Where They Came”, The Tweed Museum in Minnesota

In 2024-2025 Gallery Exhibition for Galerie C in Paris, France, and Neuchatel, Switzerland, will show her work.
